Mid Glos Mini- Soccer Champions League Frampton May 20th
In a dramatic end to the season Painswick U- 9’s did a Chelsea and beat a strong Rodborough Lions team on penalties to with the (Mid Glos) Champions League. A kindly draw pitched us against the other leagues’ runners up Kings Stanley and Cam Saxons. The first game against Kings Stanley was eventually well played by boys who after a wobbly start settled and produced a fine 2nd half performance, Great passing by Walter Lovell and Findlay Davies set up the chances and in particular a fine goal from Alfie. The second match pitched Painswick against the tough Cam team who had dumped us unceremoniously out of the Cup earlier in the season. This time the boys were not intimidated and played really well to run out 1 - 0 winners. Jake Cratchley in particular capped an excellent game with a fine solo goal. And so to the final to meet Rodborough Lions. Not surprisingly this was a tense affair and although both sides shared plenty of possession Rodborough played the better football keeping Painswick on the back foot for much of the game. As the game wore on Painswick gained composure and pushed forward with Walter Lovell and Thomas Ticehurst in particular, both having a great tournament, created chances which Painswick couldn’t finish with enough venom. Into extra time and the coaches’ nerves began to shred as the chances came and went for both teams. Inevitably a penalty shoot-out loomed and after long the boys were lined up in true Champions League Final fashion to watch each player take the long walk to the penalty spot. An early miss by both teams’ ratched up the tension and eventually 7 Painswick players took a spot kick before a final save by the magnificent Lawrence Ryan in goal snatched a victory from the Lions. A tough way to lose, but all credit to the Painswick players for their bravery (all volunteers for the penalties) in the final and their classy and determined performances on their way there. A great end to an excellent season.

14 Apr 2012 Painswick U 9’s 5 Ashelworth 0
An excellent team performance to cap off a great season. After a sticky start and with Callum Radford playing in the unfamiliar front role, Painswick gradually got into their stride. Two breaks through goals from Callum gave them the confidence to stroke the ball about in midfield where both Thomas Ticehurst and Alfie Bradshaw provided some great runs down the line. Both players repeatedly beat their men and got behind the Ashelworth defence who put on a great defensive display. Thomas scored two good goals after fine work from midfield and Walter, a late sub, came on to score Painwick’s 100 goal of the season. In midfield Gus Edwards was in total command tackling and setting up repeated attacks with clever balls out to the wings and through the middle. Rupert and Joe were once again rock solid at the back repelling some dangerous breaks from the visitors. Will in goal showed real confidence and this really boosted the team. Well done to all those in the squad for a fantastic season.

10 Mar 2012 Painswick U 9‘s 2 Wotton 2
A closely fought match where each team took the lead and then equalised. Wotton’s strong defence and midfield kept Painswick attacks at bay as they as they cleared their lines time and time again. Painswick couldn’t get into full flow but in the second half they rallied to produce a great battling performance. Goals from Thomas and Jake kept Painswick in the match and after a tactical switch at half time Gus Edwards settled things in the Painswick defence. Rupert Beecham again played well, remaining unfazed by the Wotton attacks and clearing well to set up the midfield and attack. Walter Lovell and Thomas Ticehurst showed real both quality and toughness in the midfield.

25 Feb 2012 Painswick U 9’s 0 Quedgely Whites 2
A close first half saw Quedgely go in at half time with a one nil lead, deserved because of the constituency of their passing and determined defence. Although Painswick had their chances they were denied by the in form Quedgely keeper. Reduced to 6 men half way through the first half Painswick struggled to find a rhythm and heads went down. The half time team talk turned things around and a real team spirit was evident in a great 2nd half display of passing football. Alfie Bradshaw, Thomas Ticehurst, and Finlay Davies combine time and time again with great passing moves which they just couldn’t quite convert into goals. In defence Callum Radford and Rupert Beecham did a solid job of frustrating most of the opposition attacks but were unable to stop a second breakaway goal which was well taken by Quedgely’s centre forward... Will Loftus was in superb form in goal and deserves special mention for a string of outstanding saves.
MOM : Thomas Ticehurst
19 Feb 2012 Painswick under 9’s 1 Cam Vikings 2 Gary Lee Shield Cup quarter Final
Painswick were no match on this occasion for a strong and determined Cam side. Playing on a muddy pitch Painswick were unable to get their passing game going and were consistently beaten to the ball by Cam. Despite a flurry of early corners Painswick were unable to create any real chances of note. A first half goal was a deserved lead for Cam whose defence was solid throughout. This wasn’t a day for pretty football and neither side created many real chances. After going down to a sloppy second goal Painswick pulled one back from Walter Lovell who took his chance really well. This was the only high spot in an other wise disappointing performance by Painswick who tried hard but lost their confidence and suffered several injurious against at battling performance from the home team.
28 Jan 2012 - Painswick Under 9’s - 6 against Abbeymead - 0
Painswick got back into their passing game with this solid win against Abbeymead. The defence provided a good foundation with well timed tackles and good covering back. Rupert Beecham once again had a good game with Callum Radford and Joe Hill as reliable as ever. In midfield Thomas Ticehurst was having one of his best games of the season covering and spraying passes around to create chances for others. Alfie Bradshaw created chances and grabbed a couple of goals while Gus Edwards took the opposition’s MOM for his clever passing work. Walter Lovell got back into his stride after missing a few games and deserved his goal for his attacking runs. Finlay Davies was unlucky not to get on the score sheet but as usual played others in with thoughtful passing. Sam Birt (1) and Jake Cratchely (2) both had to play out of position at times but did their jobs well. In truth goalkeeper Lawrence Ryan was never in any danger from an Abbeymead side that defended well but were unable to mount an attacks to worry the Painswick side. An improved performance after last week’s defeat and definitely in the right direction.

07 Jan 2012 Painswick Under 9’s 7 GVR 0
After the Xmas break Painswick took some time to get into their stride and despite a handful of early goals the passing game they have been working at was only show in patches. There was good work from Thomas Ticehurst, busy as ever in midfield and from Alfie Bradshaw on the left. However the score should have been much higher given the number of attacks Painswick mounted. This was in part due to outstanding goalkeeping and solid defending from the GVR keeper and defenders. In the second half Gus Edwards stamped his authority ion midfield with some intelligent passing and he linked well with Finlay Davies on the left and Callum Radford in defence who once again gave a calm and effective performance. He was partnered well by Joe Hill and in particular Rupert Beecham who improves with every game. Jake Cratchely did an excellent job playing out of position on the right and Sam Birt was unlucky not to score after a lot of hard work up front. An efficient win.
05 Dec 2011 PAINSWICK 3 vs CAM EVERSIDE VIKINGS 3
For the 3rd game this season Painswick had to play without subs owing to last minute illness. But the team pulled together to produce an intelligent and gutsy first half taking a 3-1 lead. The second half was a different story as tiredness took its toll and Cam came back with a good team display to level the scores. Painswick had their chances in the second half but were unable to convert and finished with a determined defensive display to hold on for the draw. Thomas Ticehurst had an outstanding game in midfield using his dribbling skills to set up some lovely moves well supported by Sam who also made a fine job when he had to drop back into defence. Jake Cratchely produced an all round centre forward’s display having his best match of the season running at the Cam defence but also defending from the front. Also outstanding was Callum Radford at the back who was everywhere to snuff out Cam attacks. Well done to all the boys who finished exhausted after putting in a battling performance against a Cam side who grew more determined as the game went on.

26th Nov Painswick Under 9’s 14 v Frampton U 9's 1
Without playing anywhere near their best football Painswick managed to beat Frampton comprehensively. This was a game of individual performances rather than great team play. Frampton started well and Painswick played without their usual confidence. But gradually the goals mounted with Thomas Ticehurst finishing with an impressive six. Further goals from Sam Birt (2) Finlay Davies (2) Walter Lovell (1) and Gus Edwards (3) saw Painswick run out comfortable winners. Alfie Bradshaw and Walter took turns to fill in in goal and Finlay Davies did a good job in the unfamiliar full back slot plus and still managed two well taken goals. Callum Radford and Rupert Beecham formed a solid defensive partnership in the second half allowing the midfield to increase the goal tally.

19th Nov Cam Everside Vikings - 1 vs Painswick U 9’s - 6
RESULT 1 - 6
Painswick kept their shape well in the first period with Rupert Beecham having his best ever game at the back, clearing well when Cam attacks broke through. Thomas Ticehurst in an unfamiliar role in defence tackled hard and made supporting runs for the midfield. Painwick’s midfield was right on form with Alfie Bradshaw and Walter Lovell outstanding in attack and racing back to provide good cover against a Cam team that flooded the defence. Gus Edwards in the central position spread some lovely passes and was unlucky not to score several times. Upfront Jake Cracthley despatched his hat trick with ruthless efficiency after good work from the midfield. In the second half Joe Hill came on and was as usual cool, calm, and reliable in the centre of defence. Lawrence in goal had been untroubled for most of the game clearing up the occasional attack efficiently was momentarily distracted and Cam pulled a goal back. Sam Birt on to lead the attack got a goal and worked hard running down the ball. The opposition acknowledged the quality of both Alfie and Walter but in this occasion Walter with 2 goals got the nod for ‘man of the match’.

5th November Wotton Rovers Lions vs Painswick Under 9’s
RESULT 2 - 8
After 2 games with a small squad this time it was the opposition who were unable to field their full-strength side. Although the win was comprehensive Painswick kept playing football once again managing to put together some superb passing moves. The attacking flair of Painswick meant they dominated the first half and some of the second as they fired in 8 goals mostly coming from a very strong midfield. Lawrence in goal was troubled infrequently but his technique improves with every game and he mostly managed to snuff out the Wotton attacks. Gus, Joe, and Rupert kept a lid on the opposition for most of the match though defensively the whole team will need to up its game against stronger opposition. Finlay (1), Walter (3) Alfie (1), and Thomas (1) were outstanding in the middle. Jake bravely pushed hard to break through but two injuries took their toll. Sam also up front, worked hard and once he was in his stride grabbed a brace in a battling performance. MOM : Thomas Ticehurst 29th October - Under 9's Garry Lee Shield Game Milkwall vs Painswick RESULT 0 - 3 Once again Painswick travelled with a depleted squad this time for a 2nd round cup game. Unfortunately with one player lost in the depths of Frampton, Painswick had to start the match with only 6 players. A quickly reorganised formation meant coaches Neil and Gary were expecting to hold on defensively and play on the break. But the under 9’s want to play football and they managed to pass and move as they would with a full team! This turned into a tremendous team performance surpassing last week’s result. New boy Callum Radford provided a solid and calm defence supported by Lawrence Ryan ever keen to make forward runs. Thomas Ticehurst was outstanding in midfield, tackling hard and making clever passes to set up Jake Cratchley. Alfie Bradshaw was tireless, making runs and firing in crosses, corners, free kicks, and shots. Jake Cratchley cleverly varied his game to find space and fired in three well taken goals for his 2nd hat trick in a row. Will on goal had a quiet game apart from two outstanding saves. 15 minutes from the end Gus Edwards arrived and strengthened by his presence in midfield Painswick ran out clear winners. Outstanding team performance.

22nd October - League Match Quedgeley Wanders White vs Painswick
RESULT 0 - 8
With, many of the regular squad unavailable because of half term holidays Painswick were up against it from the start. However this turned into a superb team performance against a Quedgely team who did their best to hold back the white and red tide of Painswick players. Moves were started from the back, from wide and finished decisively up front. Alfie Bradshaw, Walter Lovell, Lawrence Ryan and Finlay Davies were in superb form passing the ball about, playing back when necessary and tearing down the wings to provide crosses for Jake Cratchley who was back among the goals this week. Gus Edwards was the foundation from which the moves started calmly passing and clearing when necessary. Alfie Bradshaw deservedly took the opposition's man of the match award after a clever and responsible performance in midfield. He capped it off with a superb free kick. Special thanks to Ben Bishop who stepped in at the last minute to do a great job in goal.

RESULT 2 – 3 (aet)
This was Painswick's 2nd match of the season and their first cup game. With perfect weather conditions the game kicked off, Painswick dominated the first half having several shots on goal and passing brilliantly, but the well organised Rodborough side kept the game 0 - 0 at half time. The second half got underway and Rodborough took the lead, Painswick quickly equalised with a well taken goal by Jake Cratchley. Walter Lovell then scored another goal for Painswick making the score 2-1. Rodborough went on the attack and were awarded a penalty for 'Hand Ball' in the area which they scored to make it even. It was back and forth for a bit with both teams defending and attacking well, there was some great saves from the Painswick goalkeeper Lawrence Ryan and the score was left 2-2 at full time. Extra time was then played in which both teams but up a valiant fight, penalties looked on the cards but up stepped man of the match Walter Lovell who slotted home the wining goal for Painswick in the last kick of the hard fought game, well done to all the boys.

What a first game for Painswick! The players really gelled together and took the lead early on with a goal from Alfie, shortly after a goal from Sam made it 2 - 0 and then Walter got started, Abbeymead put up a valiant fight but could not get past the Painswick defence. Walter ended up with 5 goals and Thomas got his well deserved goal. Abbeymead did manage a goal in the second half and the game ended 10 - 1 to Painswick.
