22.01.12 Painswick 7 v 1 Malmesbury Tornadoes - League Game

This was a game where Painswick took control right from the whistle and within 15 minutes were 3-0 up. During the second half some great team passing and build up play created many chances and at times was great to watch. Will Loftus had a great game in goal and then with 10 minutes to go came out to play on the pitch and played very well. Will was replaced by Ben Bishop in goal who then made an excellent save and was unlucky with the goal that was scored by Malmesbury near the end. All the players deserve great praise for their performances but special mention needs to go to both Jake Cratchley and Thomas Ticehurst for both scoring a hatrick. Also Ben Stopford who had an amazing game playing in many different positions on what was his first of hopefully many games for Painswick FC. The day though belonged to Ben Rowlands who was making his final appearance for Painswick FC, and had another hugely impressive game as both captain for the day and also was nominated for man of the match.

04.12.11 Painswick 8 v Rodborough 0 – Carol Jenner Cup

Painswick ran away easy winners in a game that they controlled from start to finish. Rodborough deserve much credit for never giving up and fighting to the very last whistle and a couple of times did counter attack and could of scored. Despite the 8-0 score line Painswick could of scored a few more goals but at the end of the day it was a superb performance by the whole team. Although it was a very good team performance I would like to name a few players who deserve a special mention. Gus – had a superb game with some great runs and crosses and scored a hat-trick. Joe – the solid defender, turned winger, turned goal scoring striker. Henry & Louis – scoring there first goals for the team and played superbly. Well done to the whole squad though as you all awesome. The whole game was played with a great atmosphere and credit to both sets of supporters who really made this a very special game, so a huge thank you to them too.

20.11.11 Malmesbury 1 v Painswick 4 - League Game

A game where the pitch conditions played a huge part in the quality of the football being played, as the wet and muddy surface made basic passing and controlling of the ball very difficult and this had a massive impact on the way that we played the game.

The first half was very scrappy but in general was very much controlled by Painswick with the odd moment where Malmesbury did counter attack or have small amounts of possession. Painswick never really looked like losing the game but at half time we still hadn’t really turned possession into goals. As the second half started Painswick began to take more and more control of the game as they started to adapt better to the pitch conditions, and soon after the goals did start to come. Goals from Thomas (2), Jake and Logan changed the game and from that moment on the nerves were settled and more and more team changes were made.

Considering the 4-1 score line, and the number of chances that were missed, overall it was an excellent performance in very difficult conditions, with Ben Bishop, Ben Rowlands, and Louis Slater all again showing huge leaps forward in their passing, control, and tackling and all showed a real grit in getting stuck in under difficult conditions. Also new signing Logan Hudson had a very good game, scoring on his debut and I am sure will be a great addition to the squad, now and in the future. Well done to everyone.

06.11.11 Slimbridge 1 v Painswick 2 - Carol Jenner Cup

This was one of those games that was played in the true spirit of youth football. With end to end action, hardly any fouls, and supporters from both teams cheering and applauding both sets of players. The score could have been 8 – 8, except for some great saves from both keepers. Overall it was an excellent performance from ALL the Painswick players in the squad.

Despite the fairness in which the game was played both teams were still very committed to winning and the better team came through as winners on the day. It was very difficult to choose a man of the match with so many good players on the pitch but in the end the performance from Lawrence can only be described as “awesome” and rightly deserved this honour.

Squad: Will, Joe, Callum, Thomas, Lawrence, Louis, Ben R, Ben B, Henry.
Captain: Thomas
Scorers: Callum, Lawrence
Man of the match: Lawrence.

13.11.11 Painswick 3 v Cirencester 2 - League Game

A game where the opposition looked huge compared to us, but where all the members of the squad pulled together to achieve a result many people were saying, prior, during and after the game was not possible. With some very good players and performances for Cirencester , the result was even more special when at the final whistle, Painswick had won 3:2. A great performance by every player in the squad, and even when in the second half we conceded a second goal to make it 1:2, all the boys didn’t let their heads drop and kept going.

The reward was there for everyone when in the final quarter of the match 2 great team plays set up Walter to score 2 goals to give Painswick the win. Special mention has to go Ben Rowlands who was awarded the man of the match for a performance that he should be very proud of.

Squad: Walter, Joe, Callum, Thomas, Lawrence, Louis, Ben R, Ben B, Henry.

Captain: Lawrence

Scorers: Lawrence, Walter 2

Man of the match: Ben Rowlands
